Set Writing Goals And Stick With Them

I have failed on my resolutions for 2015 so far. I am a victim of procrastination so it isn’t my fault. Ok, it is my fault and beating procrastination can be done. The secret is finding a method that works for you; not using a method someone else swears by or a “proven” way to beat procrastination. We are all different psychologically speaking and what works for one of us may not work for all of us. Granted basic tips for beating procrastination should work for everyone:

  • Set writing goals
  • Enlist the help of a coach
  • Unplug your router
  • Unplug your TV
  • Turn off your phone
  • Remove any distractions

But those are basic, very basic, and can only work if you have the willpower to make them work. I, apparently, do not have a lot of willpower and my writing goals have suffered as a result. I need external help keeping up with my goals. I decided that using software to track my goals and remind me of my responsibilities might help. Granted this is not fail proof either, but I feel like it’s a good start. I reviewed several online and offline goal trackers, but I have not decided which one I like best. I literally just finished researching candidates, but here are a few I am going to try until I find one I like that fits my needs:

No matter which app or method you choose, you have to make up your mind to stick with your writing goals. If you do not commit to a procrastination free lifestyle, nothing will help you. Meeting goals or deadlines will always be hit or miss for you. As a writer, I want you to succeed and beat procrastination. I want to read your book or blog. So get off your butt and help me out.

How have you beaten procrastination or what are you trying now? Help me and others suffering from the same issues and tell us about your troubles or solutions in the comments.
